DIY Starburst Mirror

I fell in love with this mirror about a year ago when I saw it in a magazine. It is by Thomas Pheasant that has a very big Price tag: $6,790. I did find it online for 50% Off: $3,395. LOL! Still out of my price range darn! Too bad it wasn't like 99% off! I have been looking around and found some knock offs, but still not in my price range. So I decided to make one.

Thomas Pheasant

Cost- Thousands!!

Pottery Barn

Cost- $449.99 plus $4o.oo shipping

Target

Cost- $69.00

Mine

Cost-$25.00 approx.

It only cost me about $15.00 because I needed to buy was the mirrors. I had the rest already in my craft stuff.

I bought the mirrors at my local craft store- Hobby Lobby. The large one is about 6 in (2 per pack). I bought a pack of the lg, med and sm ones (25 per pack) I also bought an assorted size one so I had 100 little mirror total. Some were chipped so I just threw those away. I used metallic silver spray paint. I already had the kabob stick and hot glue gun. It was super easy!

So this is what you need:

Spray paint

6 in mirror (or any size you like)

Kabob sticks (I had 2 different sizes, but you can cut yours if you want too) I had 32 total.

Little mirrors in assorted sizes- you can use and many as you want.

Hot glue and glue gun

Cardboard circle the same size as your big mirror (you will put this on the back)

Wire or some type of hook to hang it

Directions:

First spray paint the sticks. Then after they are completely dry glue them to the back of the mirror. I put the longest sticks in the 12, 3, 6, and 9 position (like clock) then I was able to space them. I started measuring (drawing lines on the back of the mirror like a pizza), but I decided just to eye ball it. I marked the bottom of the sticks about a half of an inch so I knew how far to glue them. Next, I flipped it over and glued the mirrors on.

Then, I glued a cardboard back to it.
When I was done I went back and added a bit of glue to the backs of the small mirrors. You probably do not need to, I just wanted to make sure they stayed on well.
I used a small metal wire that we had in the garage to make the hook and glued it to the back. Then once that is all done you get to clean up all the little "cob webs" that the hot glue left behind :O)

I haven't hung it on the wall yet, but I will post pics when I do.
