Phoenix Update- Goal was met!

It is amazing in just a few short days the goal to bring Phoenix home was met! I am so happy for Dan and his four legged pal. She is going to have a wonderful life! She is one lucky doggie!!

Thank you to everyone that helped! Any additional donations will be going to take care of other doggies that need help.

Dan's mom was on the news last night! She did great! What a wonderful proud Mommy.

We are so happy Dan will be home next month and can't wait to meet our new 4 legged niece :O)

Our Skiing Adventure

Last weekend we went skiing with friends! It was the first time JR and I both have ever gone! I took a few falls, but it defiantly was a fun time! We had great teachers too!! Thanks to our friends Jennifer and Dustin for letting us tag along! :O) Also, we are very thankful for our wonderful friends Shersti, Matt, Connor, and baby Briella for entertaining Madison for the day!! We owe you!! :O)

Some things I have learned are....

I am very grateful for snow goggles. They were a must have. They defiantly keep you warmer and being able to see where you are going is a big plus while skiing.

JR is crazy and has no fear. The first time we went down the hill, he zoomed past me and was flying down the mountain. I later found out he couldn't stop and thought he was going to die. But, he defiantly looked like he knew what he was doing. Hahaha!

Ski lifts are very intimidating! The first time I fell getting off! ha!! I also fell on those belts that take you up the mountain. The lifts that you grab onto and they pull you up are no joke either. My arms hurt for about 2 days after between those and the ski poles, lol.

It was an awesome workout! I think I worked muscles I didn't even know I had! lol!

It was a fun day!!

Our Cincinnati Adventure

Earlier this month we took a mini vacation to explore Cincinnati. We stayed at The Great Wolf Lodge for one night and had a blast! It is a lodge themed indoor water park. Madison LOVED every second. It was a really neat place to go during the winter- it was so neat to look outside and see the snow coming down.

I forgot to get a picture of the outside, so I stole (borrowed) a couple from Google.

Then we stayed a hotel in downtown Cincinnati and went to The Cincinnati Art Museum.

Nada was a great Mexican restaurant. We got lucky and got a seat right away. I guess usually they have a long wait. We would love to go back- it was delish!

Target Deals!

I heart Target so much! It is my favorite store. When we first found out we were moving to this area back in 2007 it was the first thing I googled. I could walk to Target if I needed to. It basically is in my back yard. I am sure this is the closest I will ever live to a Target. As soon as we find out where we are moving to next year, you bet I will be googling Target store locations :P

I have always wanted a pair of Converse sneakers. Black and white would be my first choice, but I will take white for $10! I am not going to wear then until next spring/ summer, but Madison got a pair she has been wearing pretty much every day. I went back a few days later and bought her the next size up because she loves them so much. She calls them her school shoes :O)

Mission- Get Organized 2012

I tried this last year, but life just got busy and I lost motivation to keep up with my mini organizing projects around the house.

This cabinet was redonkulous! We don't have a food pantry, so this is the place were all the random food lives. Things just get piled up and I hate not seeing what we have and then buying more and we wind up throwing things away that go bad that get lost in the black hole cabinet.

Starting February 1st I am going to tackle one project a day. I really wanted to link up to A Bowl Full of Lemons Linky party last year. But, After day one I stopped.

Next month I am going to complete the whole list. Anyone want to join me? I will be posting my before and after pics each day along with any tips I have learned. Madison's First Day of School

Madison started Pre School last week! *sniff sniff*

January 9th was her first day of school. She loves it and I am getting used to having a couple hours a few days a week child free! We started looking at schools last spring/ summer, but Madison wasn't 100% potty trained by the time school started.

Even though I am sad to see her go, it actually is nice to be able to run and do errands, appts, gym time, and go grocery shopping without a toddler. Grocery shopping is soooo much quicker and more enjoyable when I can just go in with my list and grab what I need. It is nice not to be yelling behind me..... "Madison keep up" or "don't touch" or worrying about making a potty run when you are in the middle of getting groceries. I think I will actually like grocery shopping again!

I was actually going back and forth with the idea of home schooling. Who knows what the future holds, but for Pre K she is enjoying her learning and playtime at school.

We are almost half was through our study. I hope you are enjoying it so far!

I want to share this wonderful NIV Women of Faith Study Bible. I need to spend more consistent time in the word and I am in love with this bible. I highly recommend you check it out. I bought mine on Amazon.

Lesson 11

Black Bean Soup

I love a good soup during the winter. There are so many yummy soups out there and I want to make more in 2012!

This was delish!

Black Bean Soup

(Dave Lieberman's recipe)

Ingredients
10 slices bacon, finely chopped
2 medium onions, chopped (about 2 1/2 cups)
6 garlic cloves, pressed
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 1/2 cups canned chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
4 (15 1/2-ounce) cans black beans, drained but not rinsed
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 bunch cilantro
juice of 1/2 lime
Thinly sliced scallions, for garnish
Sour cream, for garnish
Grated cheddar, for garnish

Directions
Put the bacon into a large heavy pot and place it over medium heat. Cook until it starts to give up its fat, about 4 minutes. Stir in the onions and cook, stirring, until they start to turn translucent, about 4 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook until you can smell it, about 1 minute. Add the broth, tomatoes, ketchup, Worcestershire, and chili powder. Stir in the beans, turn the heat to high and bring to a boil. Adjust the heat so the soup is bubbling gently and cook 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Meanwhile, pick off all the thick stems from the cilantro. Wash it and shake dry. Chop the cilantro coarsely and stir it into the soup when it has been simmering 10 minutes. cook until the soup is thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the lime juice. Serve with the garnishes.

Ice Skating

So much fun!! Need to do this again soon!! It took a few minutes to get used to the ice since I haven't been ice skating in like 10 years. Holding on to Madison was a challenge since JR and I were trying to keep our balance as well. We didn't fall, but it defiantly would of been more fun and we would of stayed longer if we didn't have Madison with us. Great afternoon date idea! But, for $3 and an hour of fun it was worth it.

Then we took a walk down town to enjoy the beautiful day.

The Press coffee shop is suppose to be one of the top coffee houses in the US. It was a cozy little place and was yummy!

Madison had a hot chocolate, I had a latte, and JR had a coffee Americano.

My First Craft Fair- Say Hello to Krafty Kelly

Last weekend I bought a booth on base for the craft fair. It was my first one I have ever done and it was fun. But, I am sure glad I am done making diaper cakes and clips for a while (it was a lot of work and a couple nights I was up until 2 am crafting away). The booth was only $5 to rent, so I said why not. I also have been wanting to open up an Etsy shop, so it was the perfect opportunity to get things started. I still need to add my products to my shop, but I have business cards and opened up the shop! :O)

JR has been super busy with school, since I am not great on the computer I need him to help me set up the listings. This week he will have a break, so as soon as we list the items I will be sure to post

Mixed Up Snowman Snacks

I made these cute little snow man snacks and I wanted to share because they are super quick and easy to make!

Mixed-Up Snowman Snacks
Ingredients:
Pretzel Sticks
Junior Mints Candies
Orange Sprinkles (I omitted these)
Fruit Roll-ups, cut into strips
Small Marshmallows
Mini Chocolate Chips

Sandwich Baggies
Snowman Bag Labels- Print them HERE

Directions:
Put desired amount of ingredients into baggies (you can do however much of each that you want). Download and print the Mixed-Up Snowman Snack Label. (click HERE above to download)

Thanksgiving- 2011

Last month we took a road trip to visit JR's sister Nikkie, our niece Maria, and nephew Conner (our BIL is over seas until March). It was so nice to see them and Nikkie (who doesn't eat meat) made us a wonderful Turkey meal!

We also enjoyed a girls day to go see Breaking Dawn. It was really good! We need to time our visit next year to see Part 2 of breaking Dawn :O)

It was a cloudy day and so hard to get a good picture of the color. I love it! It is the perfect shade of blue.

I LOVE the hardware!

I put some fun gift wrap paper inside the drawers. (From Marshalls last Christmas)

This had to be the world's longest project for me. I think I bought this desk from craigslist about 2.5 years ago. It sat in the garage until I decided what I wanted to do with it. Then it sat some more. I finally started sanding it last year, then I stopped. Then started again and started to stain it. But, I wasn't sure I loved it so I stopped. Poor JR wanted his garage back.

Then last month I stumbled across Danielle's Desk from Danielle Oakey Interiors. I instantly fell in love and knew that was what I wanted my desk to look like.

This is the picture of Danielle's desk that I fell in love with......I'd say this picture is a better idea of what the actually color looks like in real life.

I learned she used Rustoleums Protective Enamel Gloss Royal Blue 7727 and gold 51mm x 43mm BBZ Ring Pull's from Lee Valley. Check out her great questions and answers post HERE that had me running to Home Depot at the first chance I got. I tried Walmart and Lowes, but they didn't carry that color.

Hair Product Review

I recently was in need of some new hair products. I had a coupon for a John Frieda one, then I saw the L'Oreal New Studio Line and decided to give it a try too. I am not usually a sucker for advertisement, but the Eva Longoria ad next to the products sold me on it.

I bought the L'Oreal Studio Line body builder mousse and L'Oreal Studio Line Pumping Volume Spritz. I would defiantly buy them again!

I also like the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Root Booster I bought.

JR likes Suave professional for men styling paste, matte.

Trick or Treat 2011

Age 3 is such a fun age to go trick or treating. Madison isn't much into the candy (which is good!) :O) But, she loved running to all the homes to ring the door bell and say trick or treat!!

After stopping by a couple friends homes, we headed to our pizza party with friends. Then we trick or treating.

I have no idea who this cute couple is, but they were super excited for Halloween and wanted pictures with kids. They had a camera set up. They weren't creepy, they just moved here from Turkey (I think) and have never celebrated the holiday. They got a kick out of the kids dressed up :O)

Madison met Rapunzel. This made her whole night I think! She loves the movie Tangled!

Here is our 1st Pray for our Husband/ Future Husband:

Day 1
Pray that your husband will grow spiritually and consider his accountability before the Lord. Pray that he will guard his heart by developing spiritual disciplines—Bible reading and study, prayer, meditation, scripture memorization, etc.

Have you ever thanked your husband/ boyfriend for choosing you above all other women?

- Tell him you want to be a blessing to him.

- Let him know that he can trust you to always be there for him.

Here is a tip I read online: One of the best opportunities to express your gratitude is first thing in the morning. How do you greet your husband each morning? Is he confident in your love? Give him a "wake up call" that he'll never forget-a big "I love you" and an "I'm so glad I'm your wife!"

For those not married.... Here is another idea for you........ One of the best opportunities to express your gratitude at the end of a date or at the end of your visit with your boyfriend/ fiance. How do you greet him or say good bye for the day? Is he confident in your love? Tell him "I love you" and "I'm so glad I'm your girlfriend" after those dates!"

Hi Friends and Family!

My bible study girls and I are doing a little study about praying for our husband or significant other(future husband) and learning how to be a better wife/ girlfriend. I am going to be sending out daily emails to my bible study group and also some friends that are interested. I'd love to include others that are interested also, so I decided to do a little blog series on this topic. Hopefully it will bless your lives and families as much as I am hoping it will bless the lives of my friends. I hope you will join us on this exciting adventure! I will also include some other fun tips, advice, and ideas that pop into my brain. I haven't planned out any of this out, so I am just going to go for it. I am such a planner and this is all new to me. We are all going to take this journey together! (My bible study group is private because we share prayer requests, stuff that is going on in our lives, ect). So I will not be sharing personal experiences that we chat about in my group besides some of my own on the blog for privacy reasons for friends. But, I will include everything else in the lessons. If any blog readers would love to add any comments, ideas, prayer requests, or anything else they would like to share...... please feel free to leave a comment below the posts. Lets talk a little bit about what Marriage means to me.

I am from a broken home. Growing up I thought divorce was the normal thing to do. I was raised by my mother, step dad, and my father. All my friends were from divorced families, so I never thought I was abnormal. I thought once you got married, then when things don't work out or you get bored with each other you just divorced. I thought everyone had practice wives or husbands and the reality spending your life with your one true love was only for fairy tales. But, I wanted that fairy tale to be my reality. I wanted my children to never know what divorce was.

When I was little I remember dreaming of finding my prince charming and being a beautiful princess on my wedding day just like every girl. I knew I wanted to find a guy that wasn't just going to be my husband. I also wanted to find my best friend and I wanted us to spend the rest of our lives together FOREVER and live happily ever after! Was that too much to ask for? Well, I prayed to God to send me my prince charming. I was so blessed to have this prayer request answered.

When I met my husband JR I realized my dreams can really come true and that Marriage and happy endings aren't just for fairy tales. Of course, it didn't happen as quick as it does in the movies. In fact we were engaged for 3 years before we tied the knot. We both wanted to finish college before we got married. I knew when I got married it was going to be to the man that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. When I got married it was going to be Till Death Do Us Part not Till Divorce Do Us Part.

Genesis 2:22-24
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

Of course there are circumstances where two people defiantly shouldn't stay married. These are my personal opinions and I don't have anything against people who are divorced or want/ need to get divorce. Such as if you are in an abusive relationship and you don't see thing ever getting better. Your spouse cheats on you, or commits other sins and you don't want to reconcile. Even staying in a marriage just for the kids isn't always the answer. They know you aren't happy. I don't think that would be a happy childhood.

Renaissance Festival

Last weekend we went to the Ohio Renaissance Festival. The last time we went Madison was just 3 months old. I am so glad we went this year. We look forward to going again next year! This is the last weekend it is in town, so if you'd like to go tomorrow is the last day!

The reason for this SECOND AFTER make over was because we had a crack in our tub. We got a sweet deal on craigslist for a brand new tub and surround. While JR was ripping out the old tub, I knew we were going to have to repaint. If I wanted to change the paint color this would be a very good excuse to do so. Well, I was sick of the tan walls and wanted to do something darker.

After a few samples I found the one!

We went with the color called Man Cave :O)

This was my inspiration picture. I LOVE these doors.......maybe in our forever home.... ahhh...

I made the curtain! I love the no sew bond tape :O)

Missoni- Target

Have you seen the Missoni line for Target?

I am blown away with what has happened to this Missoni line. You probably haven't seen it much unless you happened to go on the first day they released it. The line was wiped out and the shelves were sparse by 9 am. It was suppose to be in stores through Mid October, but it was sold out pretty much everywhere the first day it hit Target. I went in the next day and my Target was pretty much empty. They are getting things in here and there, but I have given up hoping to find the blanket I wanted.

Turns out, people cleared the shelves and are now selling the items on Ebay for much more than they paid for it.

I would of LOVED to get one of these beautiful blankets in any color. But, the only place you can find it is on ebay and it is selling for $125 - $225. So bummed!!! :(
